What's openPICUS?

openPICUS is an open source framework for embedded devices. This technology offers an easy way to connect and control embedded systems over Internet through a custom webserver or the standard TCP/IP services.

The platform is composed by:

  • Hardware: Flyport modules and vertical expansion boards. Flyport modules have processing power and different kind of connectivity and are pin to pin compatible with each other.
  • openPICUS IDE: a free development tool for creating, compiling and downloading applications (firmware), for importing web pages and interacting with the Communication Stack
  • Bootloader: it's loaded on modules and allows to download firmware on them with no need of investing in expensive hardware programming systems.

It's a brand new concept, it's not a simple serial to LAN solution. Flyport modules are programmable embedded systems with processor power and connectivity, all in one. Programming is easy, there is no need of specific experience with communication stacks as everything runs in the background managed by freeRTOS.

openPICUS IDE lets you focus on your application. The communication stack works in the background and you can control its events.
Flyport modules are based on the Microchip PIC microcontrollers and a Communication Transceiver (Wi-Fi or Ethernet).

Different modules, such as Flyport Wi-Fi and Flyport Ethernet, are mechanically and pin to pin compatible with each other in order to let you save on expansion board and give you the possibility to choose.

"The FlyPort module is what the embedded industry was really missing - an easily integratable and programmable all-in-one solution."
Shelton A., Huston, TX, USA

“The device is incredibly easy to set up and it has already maintained a solid Wi-Fi link for several weeks”
James K., Sidney, Australia

“Management of embedded systems using Safari on an iPhone...is  revolutionary!"
Jean-Michel G., Lyon, France

“I simply control the heating system and the garage door at home remotely from my smartphone"
Yason H., Shenzhen, China
